Add Saratoga Springs to Your Journey

East Dodge Journey SearchHere’s an update to my first post on the the next Dodge Journey search, this one in the East.  It appears that the next road trip will go through Saratoga Springs.  I stumbled across this article about a Dodge film crew at a well-known local eatery in the area.  To my knowledge, P.J.’s Bar-B-Q doesn’t appear in the original TV ad, although there is a quick glimpse of the car pulling out of somewhere at the :35 mark that could be a diner-type restaurant; the overhang looks similar to the structure of the picture of the restaurant on its home page.  I suspect it will be more prominently featured in the video clues released on Sept. 24.

So this is what we have so far:

Thaddeus Kosciuszko Bridge on I-87 NS, north of Albany
UPDATE:  there has been some conversation on other sites that the car is traveling south; I originally thought (and had posted here) that the car was heading north because of the way the interstate curves to the right past the bridge and the small green sign at the end of the bridge.  This coincides with images I gathered on Google Earth.  However, I now see the southbound lanes do the same thing.  Taking a closer look, the tree line heading south, which is pretty distinctive, does, in fact, seem to match up to the ad.  Would love to hear other thoughts on this.

P.J.’s Bar-B-Q, Route 9, Saratoga Springs (we can assume driving north)

World’s Largest Uncle Sam (Magic Forest), Route 9 N, Lake George

Fort Ticonderoga-Larrabees Point Ferry Landing, Route 74E, Vermont

I’m working on two other locations, so stay tuned!

UPDATEEagle Lake confirmed.

  1. What makes you think that the Journey will cross the boarder from New York into Vermont? Especially considering that the first two started and ended in a single state (San Francisco to Sorenson’s and Oklahoma City to Cheyenne)?

  2. Hi Tyler — Thanks for stopping by! Just because of the clues showed in the original ad — sites in New York state and the Welcome to Vermont sign.

  3. Yeah that is true. But until I see a firm clue when the search starts I’m going to bet that the car will stay in New York. Do you know how people figured out the Black Kettle clue for the second Journey?

  4. Hi Tyler — I don’t know how folks determined it was Black Kettle. I didn’t pick up any clues about it on the ad, but then again I’m only familiar with the Route 66 sites that run through Oklahoma. People on the Dodge discussion board were talking about Black Kettle first thing yesterday morning; I assume maybe they were just familiar with the area. Here’s something else for you that I just now discovered (I think), but haven’t posted yet: I think the opening scene from the ad is Eagle Lake on Rt. 74 in New York. The car is heading West — away from Vermont — so maybe the car DOES turnaround at some point.

  5. That is very interesting. I am having trouble making identifications like that because I am unfamiliar with these areas. But I do have a few theories about where the car will be based on surrounding features. I am going to keep them to myself because I do plan on trying to find the Journey and don’t want to give away too much.

  6. I haven’t traveled up that way much either; I only recognized a couple spots in the original ad because I write about roadside attractions. The rest has been a scavenger hunt for me. I’ll probably post the Eagle Lake info tomorrow — looking for a good photo so people can compare and decide on their own. I won’t be going on the search — good luck to you!

  7. Please stop posting hints. It’s supposed to be a scavenger hunt, not a guided tour for those who don’t care to do the footwork themselves. You are taking some of the fun out of this contest.

  8. I’ve got it– when the car gets to magic forest (going north from saratoga) it changes back to I-87, and follow that up and around to route 74. following route 74, it passes eagle lake (going east as pictured in the video) to ticonderoga.

  9. Hi Glessa — I won’t be posting anymore on the Dodge site, although there were probably hundreds of us sharing ideas yesterday in an exciting and fun forum during the Midwest search. I’m sure that’s one of Dodge’s goals for this campaign — to create a buzz about the contest and to get people talking. Since the purpose of my blog is road trips and roadside attractions, I will continue to write about the contest. For many of us not taking part in the physical search, this is our way of participating. Of course, just because I and others are writing about it, doesn’t mean those who want to pursue their own adventure have to read what we say. I wish you good luck in your search.

  10. Thanks for stopping by! I think I’m following you correctly and I agree that the route will either be 87 or 9 to 74. What’s puzzling me (and I have a post about this tomorrow) is that it seems the car is going west in the commercial, away from Vermont, even though Vermont is also in the commercial. Still working on that one . . .

  11. id like to know how ppl have suggested that they are heading east on rt74 over eagle lake they are clearly heading west i know that curve by heart im actually from ticonderoga i have travled that route many times now i not sure about the bridge seen whether theyre heading south but in lake george they are heading north so it would be silly to say that the clues so far are saying that they have travled north south east and west…. just saying i think it alot of running around for nothing i say theyre heading north but the whole east and west thing have me thrown off

  12. I agree with all you’ve said. The east direction is being talked about because of the Welcome to Vermont sign at the ferry landing across from Ticonderoga. Yet, as you mentioned, the car is heading west when it passes Eagle Lake. It’s also clear that the car is heading north in Lake George. There is no obvious route coming into play. In the West journey, the route went north for a bit only to turn south, so maybe Dodge is trying to throw people. They may be doing a good job! Thanks for stopping by!

  13. i also agree with the them trying to throw us off but with the majority of the cluse being north of albany i would say its going to be in the north area

  14. I almost never comment, however after looking
at through a lot of comments on this page Add Saratoga Springs to Your Journey | The Off Ramp.
I do have a couple of questions for you if you tend not to mind.
Could it be simply me or do a few of the remarks come across as if
they are left by brain dead individuals? :
-P And, if you are posting on additional online social sites, I would like
to keep up with everything new you have to post.

Would you post a list of every one of your public sites like your linkedin profile,
    Facebook page or twitter feed?

  15. Greetings! Very helpful advice within this post! It is the little changes that produce the greatest
    changes. Thanks for sharing!
